Frédéric Vosgröne does not win by knocking anyone out. He wins by taking his opponent to the ground and removing his options there until only one is left: to tap. Five wins, every one of them by submission and none beyond the second round. His first defeat came in September 2026 at the Frankfurt stadium against Karlos Vémola.

The man from the Neandertal

He comes from Mettmann, a few kilometres from the valley that gave an entire human species its name. He did not choose the nickname, but he wears it with visible pleasure — complete with a blond mane, a broad back and a grin that never quite looks like that of a combat athlete.

It began with judo. At sixteen he watched his first UFC fight and knew where he wanted to go. Then came five years in London: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Carlson Gracie, days spent coaching on the mat himself, evenings competing on the British grappling circuit. A black belt and a tournament win against half the island were the result.

The rest is a fairly German career: for years nobody was watching, then came one evening in April 2025 in Dortmund — and suddenly everybody was.

Two months that changed everything

At his OKTAGON debut in Dortmund he clung to his opponent's leg in one sequence so unshakeably that the clip travelled around the world. Within two months his Instagram account grew from around 9,000 to more than 430,000 followers. Today it is more than 650,000. For a German combat athlete that is an exceptional figure — and it is still noticeable that he was the last person to expect it.
